Leon Vlemmings earned his first win as Feyenoord manager with a 1-0 victory over Sparta. The lone goal of the match came eighteen minutes in when Diego Biseswar drove the ball over new goalkeeper Cássio Ramos, on-loan from PSV, in a play Sparta complained was offside.

Feyenoord was boosted with the return of Danish international Jon Dahl Tomasson to the starting lineup. The new Sparta ‘keeper was having trouble from the start and eighteen minutes after the start, Diego Biseswar chipped the ball over Cássio Ramos who was off his line. Opportunities to score were limited and even though the pace picked upon in an otherwise “modest” match, Feyenoord held on the victory, grabbing an important three points.

With the victory immediately bringing up talk of winning a spot in the new Europa League, Feyenoord will need to be at their best as they face Groningen on Sunday and Ajax the following week.
