Feyenoord plays Vitesse to 1-1 draw
By: Jackson | November 30th, 2008
Feyenoord played Vitesse to 1-1 draw in a match where both clubs were deserving as a point. Things looked good for Gertjan Verbeek’s side as took advantage of defensive error by the Arnhem side, with Giovanni van Bronckhorst picking up a errant pass and dishing to Roy Makaay, who made his way to the edge of the box before driving the ball past ‘keeper Piet Velthuizen. For the next quarter of an hour, Feyenoord looked as if they were going to increase their lead but slowly Vitesse gained confidence and the tables turned. Before the break, the momentum had definitely shifted with only Henk Timmer the difference in maintaining Feyenoord’s lead. Luigi Bruins showed a great deal of flourish and created a few good scoring chances including a well-placed cross that just escaped service by Georginio Wijnaldum at the hour mark. Yet the home side showed intent for the leveling goal and with with thirteen minutes remaining as Paul Verhaegh scored off a textbook “1-2″ with Finnish international Niklas Tarvajärvi. Leroy Fer had a perfect chance to score with five minutes remaining but Piet Velthuizen saved the day for Vitesse.
De Graafschap is up next on Saturday with Feyenoord eleventh in the table.

Wijnaldum seems worn out… Time for Landzaat, De Guzman and Slory to step up to the plate. And where’s Jon Dahl??
Got a nice piece of football humor on the Eredivisie level of this site.
And upcoming: injuries & Feyenoord, at the Netherlands blog!
Check it out!

Your humourous piece was great. You have to speak to my coach - he can tell you many stories that might not be “appropriate” to print but a good laugh.
