Feyenoord lose close match to Heerenveen

By: Jackson | January 17th, 2009

Leon Vlemmings first match in-charge since taking over for Gertjan Verbeek ended in defeat as Feyenoord lost to Heerenveen 3-1. While victory was on the mind of Feyenoord, it started in disaster as Trond Sollied’s side scored only four minutes in as Roy Beerens cross was nodded in by Kristian Bak Nielsen. Down by one and possibly the “highlight” of the match, Feyenoord didn’t back down and controlled the run of play for the more than a half hour. Diego Biseswar rattled the goalposts just past twenty minutes and Roy Makaay looked on the verge of scoring twice but the final touch wasn’t just right until the thirty-eighth minute when Roy Makaay volleyed a perfect strike in. However the match wasn’t level for long as Bonaventure Kalou played in Danijel Pranjić and from the edge of the box the Croatian international fired the ball in. After the break, momentum shifted and Feyenoord were under pressure and unable to launch much of a attack. Clearly on their back heels, Feyenoord was being overwhelmed as at the seventy-first minute Arnór Smárason headed the ball in from close range. Unable to threaten the Heerenveen end, the match concluded with a 3-1 loss.

Hey there Feyenoord, could you please get Ebi Smolarek back? He’s only wasting time on the Bolton bench, and he gets worse and worse while playing for Poland too.
    So why not?
