Feyenoord hold AZ to scoreless draw
By: Jackson | March 22nd, 2009
Feyenoord extended its unbeaten streak to five matches as they held Eredivisie leaders AZ to scoreless draw at DSB Stadion in Alkmaar despite playing with Jon Dahl Tomasson, Kevin Hofland and Giovanni van Bronckhorst. With the result, Feyenoord moves to win four points of European football spot.
Despite Louis van Gaal’s side being strong favourites at home and while they launched many early attacks, each was killed off successfully with committed Feyenoord defending. Feyenoord’s best chance to score came five minutes after the half hour when Georginio Wijnaldum and Diego Biseswar linked-up with Roy Makaay but the great veteran’s final shot was off. After the break de Rotterdammers midfield play limited AZ’s chances going forward, with the only exception being Stijn Schaars header that was saved brilliantly by Henk Timmer. Without any further scoring opportunities the match ended in a 0-0 draw.
